Bhaidooj is a brother-sister festival celebrated by the Hindu community in India and other parts of the world where the rituals are almost similar to Raksha Bandhan but, is not as popular as rakhi. Instead of the designer rakhi sisters tie raksha dhaga(yellow and red thread) and apply tilak on her brother's forehead, perform aarti and give him some sweets to India. This bond between siblings is celebrated twice a year. Sisters are lavished with gifts as well as brothers are given gifts in some communities. This year it will be celebrated on 16th November 2020.
'Bhai' means brother and 'dooj' mean the second day after the new moon (the day of the festival). This day is also known as Yama Dwiteeya as is believed that on this day, Yamraj, the lord of death visited his sister Yami who performed all the rituals related to this festival for his brother's well-being. That is why it is also believed that anyone who receives or any girl who apply tilak on her brother's forehead would never be hurled in hell.
According to some legend, it is believed that after slaying Narakasura demon Lord Krishna visited her sister Subhadra who welcomed him with holy lamp and flowers and applied tilak on Lord Krishna's forehead.
Since then, this day is remarkable and celebrated by every sister by applying tilak on their brother's forehead. But siblings who stay far away as sister got married and shifted to another part of the nation or the world send bhaidooj gifts by post.
On this auspicious occasion pick up gifts like dryfruits, hampers, mithai, wallet or a watch. To get it more sorted for your brother who cannot arrange all the things required to complete the ritual we have bhaidooj thaali which has tilak or vermilion, mithai, roli and chawal. Now, look no further and buy bhaidooj gift and send it to your brother to India.
